A week in Helsinki

DSC_0896

I spent the majority of my last week in Helsinki, where my days consisted of walking, shopping, more walking and reading.

Pace Gallery

798
Flower forests and the crystal universe - what a day at 798. So much beauty from teamLab
And yesterday I went to the National Museum of China, but not because I really wanted to see their ancient pottery and china (I've seen enough for a lifetime in Shanghai, Taipei and Beijing by now...), but more due to me wanting to see Masterpieces from the Leiden Collection. Rembrandt, van Mieris and other Dutch dudes.
What an artsy-fartsy weekend this was.

上海 shenanigans

I stayed at a motel between Xintiandi, a posh shopping area, and this traditional old part of Shanghai, with old lane houses and streets like this.
Talk about diversity.

Bye '16, hi '17!

 Happy New Year!
新年快乐!
Head uut aastat!
С Новым годом!

I am very aware that I'd been inactive with my posts in December - I swear, it was a busy one!
Enjoying my 3 days off right now, drinking coffee with some Miles Davis tunes and am so ready for 2017.
//

OT-lyfe

 I thought staying 'til 1 am is hardcore, but then I got to leave at 4 am on Wednesday, so this was actually ok.
Tired, stressed, but strangely... happy.
Advertising is exiting!

798 X Andy Warhol

Last weekend around 798 - M WOODS gallery is hosting this wonderful exhibition of Warhol's screen tests, photos and installations. I recently finished reading his book "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol", which I believe gave me a good preparation for the pieces on display.
If you're around Beijing, go check it out! Open until January 7th, 2017!

Labor Day weekend

Ah, Labor Day - it's another public holiday in China, so no work or school for me today!
This time of the year in China - always weird & busy times (welp, it's so far only the second time for me, but seems like we're developing a habit here).
So, fast forward to my Labor Day weekend in Beijing 2016, what's been happenin'?

I did actually go to Lantern to see Jarreau Vandal & Mr. Carmack.
It was oh-so-lit.
Can't even.
The music was so good, man, what even.
Danced until 5 a.m. and got home just in time for sunrise.

Concrete

kumu

Went to KUMU museum yesterday to see the bomb installation Supersymmetry by Ryoji Ikeda.
Crazy inspiring stuff. A must see for everyone who finds pleasure in futuristic pieces and crazy light-sound combos.
//

Going to theatre in China - "Chinese New Year" a.k.a. 过年 at NCPA

Tulin eelmisel nädalal spontaansele mõttele, et tahaks teatrisse minna. Täpselt sama spontaanselt viskasin pilgu peale, mida National Centre for the Performing Arts kavas head on ja nägin, et seal on Tšaikovski "Pähklipureja" hiinastatud versioon.
Hm, huvitav. Ostsin samal päeval piletid.
//
I had this random thought of going to the theatre. Just as randomly, I looked up of what's on at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and apparently, a chinafied version of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutrcracker" was about to be performed on the weekend.
Hm, intriguing. Copped the tickets the same day.

Tiananmen & Dada with the LoveLoveNYC collective

DSC_0034
Believe it or not, yesterday was the first time for me at the Tiananmen square!
//
Nii uskumatult, kui see ka ei kõla, aga eile olin esimest korda siinoldud aja jooksul Tiananmeni väljakul!

Beijing Design Week & Sanlitun

Me & Anna-Lisa went to the closing party of an art installation made for the Beijing Design Week. It was a little traditional courtyard situated in the Baitasi hutongs, and the whole thing was called "The Secret Garden of Give and Take".
